10 Thoughts About Strange Tales #1
1. Given the light-hearted, humorous approach most creators took, it probably should have been called Not Brand Echh.
2. Johnny Ryan's Punisher strip was very funny, reminiscent of those old Fred Hembeck specials.
3. Nicholas Gurewitch's Wolverine strip was the funniest thing I've seen in years. My wife was in tears laughing.
4. If there's any interest on the artist's side, Disney/Marvel needs to open up their pocket books for Dash Shaw to do a Doctor Strange graphic novel.
5. Same comment for Paul Pope for any character (though Spider-Man would get my vote). What a cover!
6. Although I've been underwhelmed by Pope's writing lately.
7. Plus, I really don't get the obsession with Lockjaw.
8. Or Modok, for that matter, although Bertozzi's decade-a-page story was great. The biggest surprise in the book for me.
9. Peter Bagges's Incorrigble Hulk was the other. Hard to imagine what Marvel editors found objectionable about this story, at least based on the first part, but I'm glad to see they got over it.
10. I agree with everyone else that $4.99 is way too high, yet I bought it anyway, so I can't complain.

This is on its way to me via mail and now I'm looking forward to it more than ever.
I do hope there's at least some "serious" material in there; one of the things that bothered me about DC's Bizzaro collections was that most of what I read was simply different creators taking the piss out of superheroes. That's fun and funny, but I'd be just as interested to see these artists try to do something with the characters on their own terms and in their own style, instead of just a comedic riff.
Nope, it's all light-hearted stuff.
I hadn't heard editors objected to the Incorrigible Hulk (as opposed to the jelly babies Hulk strip). Maybe it was the way the young lady considered herself a bit of a slapper.
Sadly, I have to say this book left me completely cold. If this is the best alternative artists and writers have to offer, I'll pass.
Here's a hint, Dave: The best alternative writers and artists have to offer will never, ever be published by Marvel Comics.
Unstable Molecules was good! Anyway, I didn't think it was great but liked it better than I thought I would.
